Pictures of Venice

Venezia is an unique city, there is nothing similar in the world, only few bad attempt to imitate it. Venice, declared UNESCO World Heritage site, is almost impossible to visit cycling, you need to walk a lot instead, the more you walk the more picturesque corners you can discover. The people say that bikers are not good walkers, maybe it is true, but when walking in Venice it is never a stress. I think Venice deserves a space on CuboViaggiatore, these Panoramic pictures are one of the best memories I have.

Day 1: Aldo Pacer, rice fields and Orta Lake

Do you remember Aldo of Pedalando per non dimenticare? Unbelievable pacer today! He went along my first Stage of Turin - Black Forest with me for the first 60 km. With his help (I have been in the wake of him all the time) I arrived up to Santhià with an average speed of about 30 Km/h.

The sea with a lot mountains

Liguria from the eyes (and the bike) of Lorenzo

Lorenzo tells us about these two beautiful days riding in Liguria on the hills above Imperia, that in these September days it is almost like "forcing" Lorenzo to take the bike and riding.

by Lorenzo Spanò

Day 1: 2013 September the 3rd

A Lighthouse above the Aurelia Road, picture taken from the second turn of Poggio uphill (famous for the Milano-Sanremo race), I went up together with 2 racer guys from Laigueglia, even if always following their wheels at the end they even compliment me with me with my trekking bike (I call it the "gate") and the age declared on my id.
After arriving on the top they went down toward Sanremo ... (fortunately) while I got back to my normal pace of retired man toward Ceriana that offer a slight and scenic uphill.

View of Ceriana a couple of turns away, the village is very alive because is the destination of many people from Sanremo, it is strange the Tunnel which splits the village.

Ayas Valley (Day 1)

One of the most emotional things when travelling with bike are the encounters (the encounters of the destiny as Lorenzo is used to call them). The meet up today with Adolfo from Barcelona who is travelling with his mountain bike around the world with the target of reach the Nepal has been a proper encounter of the destiny, I do not believe in randomness in this case.

Adolfo was riding in my opposite direction, towards Torino, while I was riding toward the Aosta Valley, when he saw me with my extrawheel he understood that I was a bike traveller and he soon tried to stop me in order to ask me some information. We introduced each other and of course he also mentioned about his blog called alguienquepedaleaporahi, I hope he will hav time to update it, it would be nice to follow him on cuboviaggiatore. Adolfo had a problem with his rear wheel, he was asking me to show him a good bike shop to repair it. I showed him the way to get to Cicli Bergamin in Torino. I had information later from the bike shop owner that everything was repaired and Adolfo could resume his trip toward Nepal. Have a good luck Adolfo. We will follow and support you.

My trip resumed slowly towards the Aosta Valley, the first stop was for taking some pictures at the  Agliè Castle, where it is of course possible to visit, but unfortunately my short available time didn't allow me to do. Second stop for a having a sandwich in Baio Dora.

From Torino to Palermo. Pedaling for not forget

by Lonrenzo Spanò and Aldo Grippi
There are encounters already written in the destiny. The ones between me and the Italian Parents Union, UGI (Unione Genitori Italiani) against children tumor (www.ugi-torino.it), the encounter occurred in the 1984, when I was still a young boy! A young boy father of 2 wonderful creatures, Oriana, 5 years old, and Paolo, 16 months old.

The Hilly area south of Chivasso

This area at Torino doorstep (precisely in the East Part of Torino) offers many possibilities for bikers in both long and short distance ride.

The area is totally hilly and we have to expect continuous uphills and downhills. The vegetation sometimes does not allow to see the landscapes, but when you are at the top of the hills you can enjoy very beautiful landscapes.
Play attention the uphill toward Castagneto Po it is very hard there are some stretches at 14 % inclination.
It is recommended for a lunch break to stop in a nice country side restaurant handled by a family. The place is called Il Tavernone that is located in Vernone as the name leave easily guess.

TRATTORIA BAR IL TAVERNONE
55, Strada Maestra Fr. Vernone 10020 Marentino, Torino. Tel: (011) 943-5091
For another lunch break stopping in Tonengo on the way toward Cocconato it is recommended a trattoria called trattoria Moia, typical Piemontese "Piola" with interesting assortment of starters. The food quantity is also abundant and prices are really reasonable, many people on the web define it as a traditional ancient time place.

RISTORANTE MOIA
Via Cocconato, 12 - 14023 - Tonengo (AT)

Summer Holidays (Vacanze Marchigiane)

Despite the hot weather, as you can see in these pictures, I had some occasion for an early morning bike ride. After 9 o'clock the temperature were already above 30 degrees and for me was not so suitable and enjoyable. In summary it was not a strong training, but almost a daily constant trainig. I could ride for long only one day up to 140 Km, it was nice before 9 o'clock, afterwards the temperature was so high that I did not enjoy so much.

The DoloMythic challenge

Today I had the right feeling. The D-Day (Dolomite Day), one of the best challenges of my life, one of them I will to remember for the life. Incredible but true I was able to complete the tour with 6 Passes in the Italian Dolomite (Rolle, Valles, Fedaia, Pellegrino, Valles, Rolle) !
The Fedaia Pass is really impressive, it is a ramp that never give a moment of relax.
The lunch at the Fedaia Refuge is the right compensation for the big effort.
Very panoramic view in the downhill up to Canazei.
